‘Pretty shocking’: What’s happening with junior marketer salaries?
Salaries at the junior end of the spectrum have increased, suggest marketing recruiters, however 2023’s uncertain job market, off the back of a strong 2022, has caused big problems for job-seeking marketers.
Most of us think we deserve to be paid more. But when it comes to marketing, junior and entry-level marketers have had a poor deal for a long while. As Joseph Fitzgibbon, founder of Growth and Company, a recruitment firm, tells Marketing Week: “The salaries I saw when I graduated in 2005 are not massively different to what they are today.”
A “decent” starting salary back then was around £25,000, he suggests. But now, it’s not “radically different”, at best £30-35,000. Which, after accounting for inflation, barely touches the side.
