Texas GOP Completely Opposes HB 1987
Austin, TX, Released: May 30, 2021 For Immediate launch
With the primaries open in the state of Texas, HB 1987 would allow Democrats to choose the leadership of the Texas Republican Party. The Texas GOP should retain the right and the ability to choose its own leadership and not have the base undermined by Democrats.
Here is a statement from our COO, Brandon Moore:
“The 1987 HB Conference Committee report, if adopted, would apply only to the Republican Party for decades. Whether you support the idea that the Party leadership be elected by primary ballot, by the Executive Committee, by convention or by other means, have a law that would apply the requirements imposed by the state on the Party leadership to a only political party, is inadmissible. I will not attribute any intention to any of the state officials or state senators who worked on this bill on this matter. It could have been a simple oversight, but they should know that it is not acceptable. Please call or email your state representative or state senator today and urge them to vote against this bill. Tomorrow is the last day of the session, so your immediate action is needed. ”
