Arsenal-owned Matteo Guendouzi endures weekend horror show
Arsenal-owned midfielder Matteo Guendouzi suffered a scorching appearance on Sunday as Herth Berlin were beaten 3-0 by RB Leipzig.
The 21-year-old signed for the Bundesliga squad during the summer transfer window after falling down the Gunners’ pecking order.
Some eyebrows rose when he was allowed to leave, with the feeling Mikel Arteta was missing a turn on the youngster.
The Frenchman has not been seen in an Arsenal shirt since a poor performance in a 2-1 loss to Brighton last season.
There have been some fitness issues raised for his absence, but it looks like Arteta has simply lost patience with the player.
Despite receiving criticism for unloading him, Arteta now appears to have got his mind right behind the loan movement.
Hertha vacillates desperately near relegation zone in Bundesliga; with Guendouzi barely setting Germany on fire.
On Sunday he endured a scorching scorching afternoon which summed up just how the £ 40,000 per week the interpreter has fallen.
He was presented in the 68th minute with the score of 1-0 to Julian Nagelsmann’s side.
By the time the full-time whistle sounded, Guendouzi had given the ball away for Leipzig’s second goal and lost his man for the third, ending a miserable evening.
The chances of Guendouzi getting a reprieve from the Gunners seem slim – and his loan will have done him no service.
The likes of Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny have had decent performances this season, with Thomas Partey still not returning from injury.
Offloading Guendouzi could prove problematic and Arsenal may have to try to loan him out again next season.
The man with the 11 selections in the French under-21 team must cast envious glances towards the Emirates Stadium.
As he fights relegation with a very ordinary Berlin side, there are plenty of youngsters playing in Arsenal’s first team.
Some will believe that Gunedouzi has time on his side to secure a reprieve in north London, but the outlook looks slim.
His Bundesliga loan is certainly not helping his case at the moment.
