M&S’s turnaround and the state of market research: Your Marketing Week
At the end of every week, we look at the key stories, offering our view on what they mean for you and the industry. From M&S’s re-entry to the FTSE 100 to the pitfalls of quantitative research, it’s been a busy week. Here is my take.
A new spark for Marks
It’s been a rocky few years for M&S. The high street stalwart crashed to its first-ever loss after clothing sales plummeted during the first lockdown. But it wasn’t just the pandemic that knocked the retailer. Its fashion credentials and pricing compared to rivals were failing to hit the mark and it was slow to move online – especially for food. Add to that store closures and job losses and it’s been a pretty miserable period for the former giant.
